READING ACTIVITIES

INTENSIVE READING

Intensive reading involves learners reading in detail with specific learning aims and tasks. It can be compared with extensive reading, which involves learners reading texts for enjoyment and to develop general reading skills.

ACTIVITIES

- The learners read a short text and put events from it into chronological order.

- Skimming a text for specific information to answer true or false statements or filling gaps in a summary

-Scanning a text to match headings to paragraphs.

-Scanning jumbled paragraphs and then reading them carefully to put them into the correct order.

EXTENSIVE READING

It is an aid to language learning, including foreign language learning, by means of a large amount of reading. The learner's view and review of unknown words in specific context will allow the learner to infer and thus learn those words' meanings

ACTIVITIES

Technology is another way to help evaluate progress. Start a class forum to post short messages about the books they are reading. Make a website to post the students' book reviews or compile a list of the classroom's favorite books. If you have access to video equipment, have the students act out a scene from the book, or make a short commercial/public service announcement about why people should read the book.

Reinforcing vocabulary is key to successful extensive reading programs. Have students start a personal dictionary of the new words they encounter in the book. Students can find other articles with these words using a search engine and increase their own retention. Then they can practice using the words correctly in sentences or short stories of their own.

OPINION:

I think that these activities are very good for students to improve their reading skills. They can learn more vocabulary and practice their pronunciation

Listening Ideas

This activity is very important for learning a foreign language because students have to listen for specific details

                           Answer  Search

Choose a story that is rich in detail and poses a difficult choice for the protagonist. Make a copy for each student in your class. Read the story to the class then pass out the papers and split students into four teams. Ask specific questions about the story, one team at a time.
If the team can answer the question from memory, they get a point. If they cannot remember, let them refer to their paper to find the answer but do not reward a point. When the children are finished with the activity, total the points to find the winning team.

Reflection

In my opinion, I think it is a good activity because students can develop their listening, practice the pronunciation of specific words and it helps a lot to their vocabulary .
